Waiting on Wednesday (18)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme started by Breaking the Spine.

Let's start looking at our MAY RELEASES.

White Cat
Holly Black
[May 4, 2010]

Cassel comes from a family of curse workers -- people who have the power to change your emotions, your memories, your luck, by the slightest touch of their hands. And since curse work is illegal, they're all mobsters, or con artists. Except for Cassel. He hasn't got the magic touch, so he's an outsider, the straight kid in a crooked family. You just have to ignore one small detail -- he killed his best friend, Lila, three years ago.

Ever since, Cassel has carefully built up a façade of normalcy, blending into the crowd. But his façade starts crumbling when he starts sleepwalking, propelled into the night by terrifying dreams about a white cat that wants to tell him something. He's noticing other disturbing things, too, including the strange behavior of his two brothers. They are keeping secrets from him, caught up in a mysterious plot. As Cassel begins to suspect he's part of a huge con game, he also wonders what really happened to Lila. Could she still be alive? To find that out, Cassel will have to out-con the conmen.

Holly Black has created a gripping tale of mobsters and dark magic where a single touch can bring love -- or death -- and your dreams might be more real than your memories.

The Princess and the Snowbird
Mette Ivie Harrison
[May 1, 2010]

From the author of
The Princess and the Hound and The Princess and the Bear comes a companion novel that stands alone, filled with romance and captivating fantasy. Liva is the daughter of the hound and the bear, heir to all her royal parents’ magic and able to transform into any animal she wishes. Jens is an outcast, a boy without magic, determined to make his way in the forest.

Though they are as different as night and day, from the time their paths first cross they are irresistibly drawn to each other.
But a terrible threat is stalking all who hold magic: the Hunter, bent on destruction. Aided by a magnificent snowbird, Liva and Jens must figure out how to save the humans and animals terrorized by the Hunter, as well as magic itself. If they fail, all will be lost—but if they succeed, they could finally be together at last.

Fans of Megan Whalen Turner, Robin McKinley, and Gail Carson Levine will find a ne
w favorite with the powerful storytelling of Mette Ivie Harrison.

I LOVED Princess and the Hound (review for that...tomorrow?) and I started reading because this one sounded good and I wanted to read this one. So, YAY!

And a bonus November release because it reminds me of a book I recently read anf LOVED (review will be up later this week/beginning of next week)

Joseph Monninger
[November 9, 2010]

Bee’s brothe
r, Tommy, knows everything there is to know about sharks. He also knows that his life will be cut short by cystic fibrosis. And so does Bee.

That’s why she wants to make his wish-foundation-sponsored trip to swim with a great white shark an unforgettable memory.

But wishes don’t always come true. At least, not as expected. Only when Bee takes Tommy to meet a famous shark attack survivor and hard-core surfer does Tommy have the chance to live one day to the fullest.

And in the sun-kissed ocean off a California beach, Bee discovers that she has a few secret wishes of her own. . . .

It sounds cliche and totally out of my style, but I have SUCH an itching for a book like the one I just read.

So, what are you guys waiting on this week?
